AGES

In Product Design Studio students design a product for a real person. They ask who it is for, make a prototype, and explain their idea in a short presentation at the end of term.
What your child will learn
How to understand what a user needs by talking to them
How to sketch ideas and choose the best one
How to build and test a simple prototype
How to present an idea clearly in two minutes
How a class runs
Every class starts with the same question: who is this for? Students then work on their own project, with regular check-ins where they show their progress and get feedback from the group.
Term plan
Start. Choosing a user and finding out what they need.
Middle. Sketching, choosing an idea and building a prototype.
End. Testing with the user and a two-minute presentation.
Before you start
This class is for students aged 13 and up. It suits students who have taken a design class before, but it is open to anyone who enjoys making things.
What they take home
Their prototype, their sketchbook and a short presentation they can show at home or at school.
