LEGO Basics is our first robotics class for children aged 7 to 9. Children build models that move from the very first day, and learn how gears, axles and motors work by using them.
What your child will learn
How gears make things faster, slower or stronger
How axles, wheels and levers work together in a simple machine
How to add a motor and a sensor to a model
How to follow picture instructions, then change a design on their own
How a class runs
Children work in pairs, so everyone gets a turn to build and to explain. Each class starts with a short challenge, and ends with each pair showing what they made. There are no screens for the first three weeks — everything is done with the hands.
Week by week
Weeks 1–3. Gears, axles and wheels. Models that spin, roll and lift.
Weeks 4–6. Motors and simple programs to start and stop them.
Weeks 7–8. A final model designed by each pair, shown to families in the last class.
Before you start
No experience is needed. This is a beginner class, and most children in the group are trying this for the first time.
What they take home
Photos of every model and a short sheet for each week, so children can explain at home what they built and why it works.
