Robotics & Engineering
Circuits & Sensors
Children build simple circuits with lights, switches and sensors, and make a night light to take home.

In Circuits & Sensors children learn how electricity moves through a circuit, and how a sensor lets a circuit react to the room. Most students solder for the first time in this class.
What your child will learn
How a simple circuit works, and why it stops when it is broken
How switches, resistors and LEDs fit together
How light and motion sensors change what a circuit does
How to use a soldering iron safely
How a class runs
Safety comes first: every student learns to hold and use the soldering iron properly before building anything. After a short demonstration, students build at their own table, with a teacher checking each circuit before it is switched on.
Week by week
Weeks 1–2. Bulbs, batteries and switches.
Weeks 3–4. LEDs, resistors and the first soldered joint.
Weeks 5–6. Sensors that react to light and movement.
Weeks 7–8. A night light each student designs, built and tested in class.
Before you start
No experience is needed. This is a beginner class for children aged 10 to 12, who are ready to work carefully with real tools.
What they take home
The night light they designed and built, ready to use in their own room.
