AGES

In MIT App Inventor students design and build a mobile app, then test it with real users. Most have an app running on their own phone by week four.
What your child will learn
How to design screens, buttons and simple navigation
How to program app behaviour with MIT App Inventor
How to test an app with other people and learn from what they do
How to improve a design based on feedback
How a class runs
Students talk to the people who will use their app before they start building. Each class mixes building time with short testing sessions, where students swap phones and try each other's apps.
Week by week
Weeks 1–4. Idea, first screens and a working app on their phone.
Weeks 5–8. Testing with real users and making changes.
Weeks 9–12. Finishing the app and presenting it to families.
Before you start
This is an advanced class for students aged 13 and up. It suits students who have finished an intermediate coding class such as Python for Kids, or who can already write short programs on their own.
What they take home
Their app installed on their own phone, and the project file to keep working on it.
