What happens in a trial class, minute by minute

From the first hello to the last photo of the finished build. What your child does, and where you can sit while they do it.

A trial class is free, lasts one hour and needs no experience. Many parents still arrive a little nervous, so here is exactly what happens, from the moment you walk in.

Before the class (10 minutes early)

Come to the front desk ten minutes before the start. We check your child's name and age, show you where the toilets are and introduce the teacher. There is nothing to bring. Every part and tool is on the table.

0–10 minutes: hello and a small warm-up

The teacher learns every name and asks one simple question: "What's something you've built before?" Answers range from LEGO castles to pillow forts. All count.

10–40 minutes: the build

Children work in pairs on a small project matched to their age. Younger groups build something that moves, like a spinning top with a motor. Older groups connect a sensor and write a few lines of code.

  • The teacher walks between tables and asks questions more than giving answers.

  • If something breaks, that's normal. It's part of the lesson.

  • No child is left stuck for long. A teacher is never more than a few steps away.

40–55 minutes: test and fix

Every pair tests their build. Most need one small change. This is often the part children talk about most on the way home.

We want every child to leave having fixed something, not just made something.

55–60 minutes: show and tell

Parents are invited back into the room. Each pair shows what they made and explains one thing they changed. We take a photo of every build and email it to you the same evening.

Where do parents wait?

There is a seating area with coffee next to every classroom, with a window into the room. You are welcome to stay, work, or go for a walk. Just be back for the last five minutes.

After the trial

The teacher will suggest a class and level. There is no pressure to enrol on the day. You'll get an email with the options and you can decide at home.
